Story

Its already 11 and my paper is due at 12, what is the point. You can call me the ultimate procrastinator. Its not that i don't have the ability to finnish my work but, there are just better things to do. This house was built for day dreaming. Home work is no match for the water fall that flows through my bed room. Home work has never posed much of a problem for me because, well, I'm not trying to brag but I'm pretty bright. I read all of the books assigned i just see no point in writing silly essays on them just to be apart of this system to humor the teachers. But this year, homework is catching up to me. Well its not just catching up, it is hunting me down and it has a license to kill. My teachers decided to stop grading my homework with zeros and put in an incomplete. Which means i haven't completed my courses, which means i can not graduate. Which brings us to the clock which is making its way to 11:05... Wait for it... And.. Boom there we are 11:05 on the dot. I have to stay inside of this house and finnish all of my assignments. I know what you're thinking, why fall into the system now? Who needs graduation? Well my parents do. And they feed me so its worth a shot. I enjoy a challenge. Its exactly twelve and i have one paper down four years of work to go. The water is like a lullaby, I'm sure it wouldn't be so bad if i. Well, good morning... Or afternoon i suppose its such a beautiful day and the house is filled with gorgeous technicolored light. But forget all of that. Lets get started on freshmen year math. They thought i couldn't so it,but i knew i could. I have it in me, this house is just a massive distraction... In college i will be a genius with no distractions.

College-
I live in a house... That suspends over the ocean? What do these people expect? They say it will inspire me, all of us writing majors are out here. I am... Distracted. This is a vicious cycle of not doing my work, well as long as i have a view...

Self portrait

My self portrait is a blind contour. I love the abstract quality that my drawing has but I'm still having trouble figuring out what to do about color and text. My hand writing is awful so im nervous to write on my final copy. But my hand writing is mine and this is a self portrait so i will have to finnish it this weekend. Im excited to see what it looks like in color and with text.

Empty bowls

Empty bowls is a dinner that raises awareness and money for families in need of food. My part in the empty bowls dinner is making bowls. I enjoy painting the bowls the most because i love making the color combinations and seeing how they turn out after they come out of the oven. I cant wait to participate in my first year of empty bowls.

Lantern

This lantern has taken the most time to complete out of all of my art projects. I have worked hard on it and I'm proud of how it turned out. The season I'm depicting is winter and although the tree on my lantern is silent its still living and the face shows that the branches are growing like thoughts. My lantern shows that just because someone is silent doesn't mean that they are not thinking. I'm proud of my lantern and it is currently being used as a lamp shade in art class. Even when my design became somewhat unconventional and tedious i stuck to my original idea and I'm glad i didn't give up and simplify my lantern.

Artist

I have chosen Frank Lloyd Wright for my artist research project because i have visited his architecture.  the photo above is of Fallingwater and it's in Pennsylvania.  i have been there a few times with my family on the way to Chicago.  I love his work and i have also visited other homes he designed in Chicago, including his own house.  Wright began his career in Chicago in 1887 and In 1893 he opened an independent practice and became a rising young architect in Chicago.  Wright had trouble in the U.S because of drama with his personal life and the great depression.  not very many pieces were released during the depression but in the 1930s he regained his status as an accepted leader in modern architecture.  Until his death in 1959 at the age of ninety-two, he would build on an unprecedented scale. Although he enjoyed immense fame in his later years, Wright had few distinguished followers. He built unique houses with each project he did and i find him interesting and very smart.  He designed things by himself and it shows his personality through his architecture.  Frank Lloyd Wright was an architect but he was also an artist and some sort of sculptor i think, because he can utilize the space surrounding his project and let the nature around the building give the home character.  I enjoy reserching and  looking at more of his work because none of it is the same and it is all very interesting and beautiful. 

end of the marking period

It's the end of the marking period and i feel like i have accomplished a lot.  I am excited to start working on the lanterns and i am proud of the progress i have made with drawing and collages so far.  My favorite project was the collage and i loved the turn out of my idea.  I have continued to surprise myself and I hope that I will continue to make progress.  I am excited to experiment with cutting paper and I hope to convey my season well.

Collage

I did my "Next President Collage" about education, and opportunities.  i did a lot of magazine transfers and continued to overlap different images and text that conveyed my message.  some elements are covered, there is a saxophone player in the collage that only I can really see.  I think that cutting arts and music is a tremendous mistake that our country is making and it is cutting off opportunities for the next generation to succeed.  Education is  the most important thing because it forms the personalities and brains of future politicians, doctors, and musicians.  the children are the future and the future doesn't look bright after all of the cuts in the schools.  the attention grabber of my collage is the patriotic child in the center of the paper.  He has president John F. Kennedy on his shoulder and it has many meanings but it mostly shows how children need to have positive influences and they must be given opportunities.  The child is transparent and all of the text and photos are shining through him.  I used a packing tape transfer and dragged the child into the collage by connecting his blue shirt to the blue writing that says next generation.  

Shoe drawing

The shoe drawing was difficult.  I felt restricted by the concreteness of the assignment.  I am better at abstract projects but i took on the shoe drawing and I'm sort of proud of the outcome.  I like parts of my drawing better than others.  I don't like the top shoe in the corner of my paper because no matter how hard i tried it still doesn't look real, but i like the sneaker in the center.  I worked on making the shoe laces look real and they are one of my favorite parts of my drawing.  I learned about the basics of shading and pencils.  I used to think all pencils were generally the same but they can be softer or darker or lighter to help with shading.  Drawing these shoes was a lot of work but i surprised myself with the finished product.

Welcome

I'm Kate and this is my first year of art class.  Im excited to be creative and learn different aspects of art.  I will use this blog to make updates on my progression through my art class during my senior year of high school.
